Most people can have cavities cleaned out with laser. 80-85% of the time this can be done without anesthetic or shots. In our office we have found that we can get the number up to about 95% if we use nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Laser emulsifies enamel with water, light and air. It is also used for soft tissue surgeries such removal of excess gum tissue, removal of lesions, frenulectomies, etc. The limitation of laser is that it cannot remove old silver fillings.
