A toothbrush is the tool you use to keep your smile fresh, clean, and healthy. It takes care of your teeth–but do you take care of your toothbrush?

Take a look at your toothbrush. Are the bristles worn and frayed? Have you ever used it for anything except brushing your teeth? Have you had it for more than 3-4 months? Then, it’s time for a new toothbrush.
Toothbrushes only last 3-4 months. This means you can get a new toothbrush every season of the year! Choose a toothbrush with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This seal is granted by the American Dental Association to products that have passed rigorous tests for safety and effectiveness. The Seal cannot be purchased; it must be earned through passing the tests. This guarantees a quality product for your and your oral health.

When choosing a new toothbrush, be sure to get one with soft bristles. Hard bristles can scrape your teeth and gums and damage tooth enamel. Use gentle pressure when brushing to avoid similar damage.

Feel free to treat yourself! Brushes come in a number of colors and styles, even in adult sizes. There is no reason for your toothbrush to be boring! Having a brush that fits your mouth in shape and size is also important. If your toothbrush doesn’t fit right, brushing can be very uncomfortable and ineffective.

Never use your toothbrush for anything other than brushing your own teeth! Sharing toothbrushes contaminates them and spreads bacteria, disease, and infection. Never use your toothbrush for tasks other than brushing teeth.
